Catan:
First of all thanks for all the constructive feedback we’ve already received – it’s much appreciated! We’re also well aware that the initial and 2.0.1 versions had some issues that we have fixed and will be fixing as soon as possible.
As various questions turned up quite often, we’d like to address them here:
Most players requested an expansion pack first and foremost, and that’s what we focused on for 2.0. However, we’ve already started working on update 2.1 that will feature various improvements to the UI and graphics. For example, we’ll add retina display support, revise the game board graphics and make trade faster.
As for further suggestions: We are reading all your comments and emails and will decide on further additions based on your feedback.
[Please note that there are already some options in the game to speed things up: While the default settings are the right ones for beginners to use, you can disable the computer opponent’s comments and accelerate the animation speed in the game’s options menu.]
In patch 2.0.1 we’ve already addressed some rare issues with the “Friendly Robber” option and the turn sequence on some devices. The problems reported by some users with regards to the stability issues in scenarios 6 and 15/16 (token placement) have already been identified and fixed by our developers. This also applies to the UI issues during trade (i.e. moving resources). Update 2.0.2 is currently being tested and will be submitted to Apple tomorrow. It’ll be available for download shortly.
If you encounter any other problem, please contact our support team and describe your problem as detailed as possible; supply log files and screenshots if available. This will tremendously help us to identify what might not be working as intended.
Here is the answer to another question brought up by players quite regularly: Yes, dice rolls in Catan are generated absolutely randomly and are not modified in any way.
However, after playing only a few games, one might believe that other players are somehow favoured by the dice rolls. This can be deceiving: After all, a distribution of dice results that resembles the statistic average might take several hundreds of rolls. In general, please take into consideration that the number 7 is much more likely to be rolled than other numbers.
There are plenty of great explanations for the dice roll probability on the web – for example at:
http://boardgames.about.com/od/dicegames/a/probabilities.htm
A few examples from the guide mentioned above:
It's six times more likely that you'll roll a 7 than a 2 or a 12 - a huge difference. And it's twice as likely that you'll roll a 7 than a 4 or a 10.
However, it's only 1.2 times more likely that you'll roll a 7 than a 6 or an 8.
Another way of looking at these numbers is that, over time, you will roll one 4 or 10 for every two 7s rolled. You'll see six 7s for every 2 or 12.
If you'd like to have a less random distribution of the dice rolls, you might want to enable another dice mode in Catan when setting up a game:
________________
Dice Mode:
With the "Normal" setting, the throws in each round are thrown randomly. With the "Stack - full", a stack of cards is created randomly with all possible throw combinations. This setting guarantees a uniform distribution of the totals on the dice. The "Stack - 5 cards" setting reduces the predictability of the stack of cards created previously, as 5 random dice combinations are removed.

Last but not least: We at USM and exozet games are huge Catan fans ourselves and wouldn't want to play a game that cheated on us! As we've played the iPhone version hundreds of times while developing the app, there have been times when we won and lost a few games in a row because of the dice - just like when playing the board game!

Catan-FAQ
Q: The computer opponents always seem to win. How do I beat them?
A: The 8 different computer opponents all have their very own strategies, strengths and weaknesses. When selecting a computer opponent from the players menu, take a look at the three different attributes. Those will give you a clue about the opponent's personal playing style. "Aggression" stands for the focus on playing knight cards, "Expansion" stands for building as many settlements as possible and "Skill" measures how smart they are when it comes to trading resources. Sean for example is quite aggressive and will surely try to get the Largest Army while Vincent will try and get the better end of the deal every time he offers you a trade.
Q: I am better than the CPU opponents
A: There is nothing better than strong human players, of course. However, picking Vincent, Hilary and William as your opponents will give you quite an variety of different tactics to beat.
Q: What about the Catan board game extensions? What about WiFi or Bluetooth multiplayer?
A: Stay tuned ;-) For feedback and suggestions for improvements please feel free to drop us a line:
